Parents were once firm believers in the old saying, "It takes a village to raise a child". In today's day in age, it is too often that a blind eye is given to an individual going down the wrong path. Some might say it is not their responsibility or it is not their "place" to say anything. Here at the Walkit Talkit Organization, we believe it is our duty as adults to speak out and not be one of those silent individuals. The youth now are exposed to more than ever before due to technology, and a much more tolerable, ever changing society. Many issues teens are faced with today were obsolete to teens of previous generations. Our youth in the new millennium are also forced to make decisions at younger ages than previous generations due to expectations the current culture has placed on them. With the number of single parent homes reaching new levels, and a drastic change in the family structure, it is not hard to see that the youth need more love and guidance than ever before.
The Walkit Talkit Organization realizes the severity of teen violence and the alarming rates as it increases year after year across the nation. With television and society playing such a key role in the lives of our children, the time for a new movement & foundation is now. It's time to take a stand, giving our youth a program where they can speak freely, be exposed to different mindsets, & make these key values a way of life so they can Walk and Talk towards their destinies and calling.
Our goal here at the Walkit Talkit Organization is to help improve these alarming statistics by giving the younger generation mindsets outside of negative societal views and trends. To further explicate the "child raising village" mentality, there is another saying, "to get where we are going, we must know where we come from." The first goal of the Walkit Talkit Organization is to help children understand why culture has shifted so drastically in society and get them back to basic principles our communities once stood on. Once these concepts are conveyed, we move into topics that promote good decision making, being above societal influence, treating others with respect, preparation for the adult world, issues that may confront them, & healthy lifestyle choices. This is accomplished through a variety of lesson plans, poetry, songs, skits, & experiments.
The next goal is to help our youth understand that their is a purpose and calling over their lives. Many individuals will gravitate towards a profession that is lucrative, trending, or follow in the path of their piers or parents. While the mentors here cannot determine an individuals purpose and calling for them, we help connect our students to the source, and have a range of tools designed by experts to help the youth identify the God given purposes placed over their lives. We also believe our walk should match our talk. Another goal is to WALK in the spirit and path God has called us to, with the truth of God's word, while shedding light on Godly principles. The Walkit Talkit Organization is very respectful of personal beliefs. Each topic can be further explained and referenced with or without biblical context.
Ericka Sims (Founder)
Born in the Chicagoland area, Ericka was raised around a loving family that recognized and supported in her gifts and talents at a young age. Her ability to connect with people of various ages, ethnicities, and backgrounds continued to grow with time. Ericka felt it was her duty to entertain, uplift, and leave people with an ever lasting glow. Playing talk show host with her teddy bears as "audience members" while discussing key issues in the community was also a clear sign of her calling. Ericka attended Spelman College, relocating her to Atlanta Georgia ,which gave her a broader view of life, while leading her to fully understand her responsibility of uplifting communities, with a focus on youth. Through soul searching, volunteerism, and prayer, Ericka created Walkit Talkit, a Spiritual Motivational Youth Organization. An organization designed to give guidance to the youth and instill core values while reminding them they have a purpose, despite what their current circumstances look like. Walkit Talkit serves as the youth division of Odyssey Productions Incorporated, a non profit organization serving the communities of greater Atlanta
"I was led on an amazing journey that taught me many of the lessons I share with the youth I encounter. I believe my path was outlined so specifically, it is my duty to share my trails and tribulations to help instill wisdom in others. It is my purpose in life to help others become the individual he or she is called to be while displaying a positive role model in which the youth can relate".
